Manzanita is unversed in the wider world, and as such, struggles to strike a balance between being too direct and saying nothing. She will observe things without reservation and shamelessly ask questions of things she doesn't understand.She is a decent mage in her own right, tapping into the earth and nature for both combat and healing magicks, although the closer the land is to her native terrain (i.e. mountains much like the Steppe), the more proficient she is.She thrives on new experiences, regardless of perceived or actual danger levels involved.
Background
Manzanita grew up knowing she was a member of "The Tribe." It was her whole world.Manzanita is a member of a remote "lost" tribe of Raen. Centuries ago, her people isolated themselves in the mountains north of what is known as the Azim Steppe. She grew up in this isolated world as a member of what she only knew as "The Tribe", far removed from what was happening in the world at large. The Calamity changed all that; her isolated community was devastasted by multiple tragedies as the red moon swung low in skies, and reduced their already small community to but a fraction of its previous number.Determined to preserve what they call "The Tribe," the survivors determined that each person under thirty and over twenty without existing obligations would be sent out into the world they had hidden from for so long, either to establish new connections, learn of new things that would increase The Tribe's odds of survival, or else bring back fresh blood to keep their gene pool from imploding.However, due to their superstitions long seated in their distrust of strangers, each person leaving was required to take a "traveling name", to keep foreign spirits from learning their true names and using that information to find their way back to "The Tribe" and using it to inflict more calamities on their dwindling numbers. Manzanita chose to name herself after the manzanita tree, a deep red tree with pale pink and white flowers, a wand of which she carries for her spellcasting.A quirk of "The Tribe's" genetics is that the males and females are the same height. As a result, Manzanita has often been mistaken for a male in the wider world, which has partially driven her to embrace a more feminine style of dress. She bears a wariness towards others Au ra especially, as she feels a distinct sensation of being too different to be accepted, yet too similar to be seen as anything else.She is in the adventuring lifestyle because she is seeking to learn new skills that she can bring back to her tribe; but also, as a child who always would climb to the highest peaks to gaze at the hazy mists in the distance, this is also her opportunity to explore a world that had, for the first couple decades of her life, always seemed out of reach beyond the horizon.
